Monitor Page – Consumption Graph

The Consumption Graph on the BEACON Monitor page charts water usage over time for up to 20,000 meters.

  • Use the Minute, Hour, Day, Month, Year buttons to select a timeframe.
  • Jump to the current day by clicking the Today button.
  • Use the arrows to step backward and forward. How far the arrows step depends on the selected timeframe (see Timeframe Increment table below).
  • Click the Calendar icon to open a calendar and jump to whatever date you select.
  • Click the Compare icon (circled in red below) to view previous usage based on the current selected timeframe (see Timeframe Comparison table below).

Note: Bars in the consumption graph represent flow, and AMR users must provide a minimum of two reads before the system can plot flow.

Timeframe Increment
Minute < Previous hour
> next hour
Hour < Previous day
> Next day
Day < Previous month
> Next month
Month < Previous year
> Next year
Year < All years
> All years

Timeframe Comparison
Year N/A
Month Compares monthly usage for the selected month to monthly usage for the same month of the previous year.
Day Compares daily usage for the selected month to daily usage for the previous month.
Hour Compares hourly usage for the selected day to hourly usage for the previous day.
Minute Compares 15-minute usage for the selected day to 15-minute usage for the previous day.

Consumption totals use automatic unit scaling. The unit of measure automatically switches when flow crosses the thresholds described in the table below:

Unit Threshold Unit Displayed
(conversion formula)
Liters >=1,000 Cubic Meters
value/1,000
Cubic Meters <1 Liters

value*1,000

Gallons >=10,000 KGAL

value/10,000

KGAL <1 Gallons

value*1,000

Cubic Feet >=10,000 CCF

value/100

10 Cubic Feet <1 Cubic Feet
value*10
>10 CCF
value/10
CCF <1 Cubic Feet
value*100

If you select nine or fewer meters, the Consumption Graph will display them all, color-coding each meter.

Consumption Chart Label Logic

The Assets>Utilities Settings>Chart Legend drop-down menu determines what to display as the label on a given meter consumption graph. Based on the drop-down menu selected, BEACON checks for the following conditions in the order shown in the tables below.

Selection Location name, Account name or Meter ID
Logic Consumption Graph Label=
If Location_Name is provided and matches other location names, Meter_ID <15 characters and the meter is not a compound, then Location_Name (Meter_ID)
If Location_Name is not provided, Account_Full_Name is provided and Meter_ID <15 characters and the meter is not a compound, then Account_Full_Name (Meter_ID)
If Location_Name is not provided, and Account_Full_Name is provided, then Account_Full_Name
If Location_Name is not provided, Account_Full_Name is not provided, Meter_ID <15 characters and meter is not a compound, then Meter_ID
If Location_Name is not provided, and Location_Full_Name is not provided, then Single Location
If Location_Name is provided and is unique in the utility, then Location_Name
Meter is a Compound
If Register_Number=1 {Value}, Medium Flow
If Register_Number=2 {Value}, High Flow
If Register_Number=blank or 0 {Value}, Low Flow

In this consumption graph, two meters share a Location_Name, OWNER OR RESIDENT, so their Meter_IDs are displayed along with the Location_Name. The other two location names–McDonalds and RESIDENCE INN–are unique in the utility, so their Meter_IDs are not included in the Consumption Graph label.

Compound meter labels include both the location name and indentify the low and high flow sides of the meter.

Selection Account name or Account ID
Logic Consumption Graph Label=
If Account_Full_Name is provided, then Account_Full_Name
If Account_Full_Name is not provided, then Account_ID
Meter is a Compound
If Register_Number=1 Account_Full_Name or Account_ID, Medium Flow
If Register_Number=2 Account_Full_Name or Account_ID, High Flow
If Register_Number=blank or 0 Account_Name or Account_ID, Low Flow

Selection Meter ID only
Logic Consumption Graph Label=
Meter ID is required and unique, therefore Meter_ID
Meter is a Compound
If Register_Number=1 Meter_ID, Medium Flow
If Register_Number=2 Meter_ID, High Flow
If Register_Number=blank or 0 Meter_ID, Low Flow

Meter IDs serve as Consumption Graph labels when Meter ID only is selected via the Chart Legend drop-down menu.

Hover the cursor over a bar in the graph to get more details. When more than one meter is displayed, position the cursor over one of the segments in the bar to get details.

CastilloL

Two meters are shown in this Consumption Graph. When the cursor is positioned over the top segment of a bar, customer 1 usage details are displayed.

LeeS

When the cursor is positioned over the lower segment of a bar, customer 2 usage details are displayed.

To turn off a meter in the graph when nine or less meters are displayed, click the account name under the graph. The account will be grayed out and its consumption data removed from the graph.

Consumpt9

To remove a meter from the graph, click its account name.

Consumption

After clicking an account name, it will be grayed out and its consumption data removed from the graph. To add the consumption data back to the graph, click the account name again.

When displaying quarter-hourly (minute), hourly or daily consumption for a single meter, hovering the cursor over a bar in the graph shows additional details: the amount of flow and the read at the selected hour or day.

Hover the cursor over a bar in the graph to see total flow (consumption) and the read at the selected hour.

Daily read with flow and read

Hover the cursor over a bar in the graph to display more details, including the total flow (consumption) and the read on that day.

Click More Options to choose a different unit of measure and toggle Temperature Range and Precipitation overlays. If 3″ or 4″ E-Series Ultrasonic meters with ORION Cellular LTE or LTE-M endpoints are present in a water system, Water Pressure, Water Temperature, Meter Temperature and Endpoint Temperature color-coded overlays are available.

Note: Your unit of measure choice persists until you choose a different unit.

When toggled on, color-coded Temperature Range and Precipitation are superimposed on the graph, letting you quickly see weather conditions.

Use the Graph button to refresh the Consumption Graph. Click the Globe button to see up to currently selected 25 meters displayed in Google Maps. Toggle views using the Map and Satellite buttons. Hover the cursor over the Map or Satellite buttons to toggle street labels on and off. Use the controls on the left to navigate and zoom in and out.
