The new BEACON User Interface (UI) provides a more optimized experience that uses all the available space on your computer monitor screen.
This document provides a brief overview of the new user interface.
BEACON is a web-based software application. To use it, all you need is an Internet-enabled device — for example, a PC, a tablet or a smartphone — a supported web browser, a username and password.
Supported web browsers include the latest version of Google® Chrome, Microsoft® Edge™ on Chromium, Mozilla® Firefox® or Apple® Safari®.
As a website, BEACON is organized in pages. The pages available to all users include: At a Glance (AAG), System Sync, Monitor, Analytics, Assets, Users and Utility Settings.
Engagement, Customers and Field Director pages are visible to customers with access to services such as Field Director, ORION Mobile Read and EyeOnWater.
The navigation bar on the left side of the screen lets you access any page by clicking its name.
Click the arrows (^) next to System Sync, Engagement, Users and Utility Settings to expand or collapse those menus. When expanded, related pages are displayed. When collapsed, hover your cursor over an icon to display related pages.
If portions of the vertical navigation bar are hidden, use the scroll bar to access them.
The navigation bar is open/expanded by default. To collapse it, with the lock icon in locked position, click the hamburger icon at the top of the page or click the |<— icon on the bottom left portion of the navigation bar. Click either icon again to toggle the bar open/expand it. When collapsed, only the navigation icons are displayed. Hover your cursor over them to view and select related sub-menus.
In the example on the right, hovering the cursor over the System Sync icon reveals all of the related pages. Click the name of a page to select and display it in your browser.
Clicking the hamburger icon when the lock icon at the bottom of the navigation bar is in the unpinned / unlocked state lets you hide/show the navigation bar. When hidden the interface fills the entire width of your browser window.
Click the lock icon to pin pages to the vertical navigation bar. When pinned, pages you are viewing always start at the edge of the vertical navigation bar (below left), whether the bar is expanded or collapsed. When unpinned, the navigation bar overlays the page (below right).
