Reader Codes

Reader Codes are two-digit codes (01 to 99), defined on a per-utility basis, for use with ORION Mobile Read V3. All codes must be created in BEACON before they can be used in the field.

ALERT CODES

• Designed to provide awareness to meter readers related to important conditions/information needed to perform their mobile meter reading duties.
• Assigned to accounts via the Data Exchange or Configured Import process (as applicable for your portfolio) then sent from BEACON to ORION Mobile Read V3 for visibility during the field assignment creation process.
• Displayed in the account details screen in ORION Mobile Read V3 software, and on the associated Monitor page card in BEACON.

READER AND TROUBLE CODES

• Predefined codes which, once defined, are available for selection by a meter reader during the mobile meter reading process to identify observations/conditions experienced during the meter reading process. See ORION Mobile Read Quick Start Guide for more information.
• Codes selected during mobile meter reading are sent from ORION Mobile Read V3 to BEACON.
• Reader Codes set during mobile meter reading data collection are easily identified by using Reader Messages Monitor page to identify Cards with Codes, then view the Reads tab of the filtered Cards.

CREATING, EDITING & DELETING CODES

• All types of Reader Codes must be defined in BEACON before they can be used in the field.
• Access the Reader Codes page from Utility Settings.
  
• User permission to view, create, edit and delete Reader Codes is required. See Roles for more information.

Creating Codes

1. Navigate to the section for the type of code to be defined.
2. Click the Create
3. Enter a number between 01 and 99 in the ID field.
   Note: ID number cannot be duplicated within a code section.
4. Enter a description, up to 32 characters, in the Description
5. Click Create.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 to create additional codes.

Editing Code Descriptions

1. Navigate to the section for the type of code to be revised.
2. Click the ID of the code to be revised to open the Edit window.
3. Enter the updated Description.
4. Click Save.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 to revise additional codes.

Deleting Codes

1. Navigate to the code to be deleted.
2. Click the ID of the code to delete to open its edit window.
3. Click Delete.
4. Repeat steps 1-4 to delete additional codes.
