The official term for adding new accounts, meters, and endpoints is provisioning. The process tells the system to associate utility customer account information with water meters and endpoints.
There are two methods that can be used to provision accounts and assets.
- Use a Data Exchange file to pass vital details for any number of accounts and assets to the system. Data Exchange files can be manually uploaded or uploaded programmatically using the BEACON Web Service import API.
- Manual provisioning. This method must be enabled by Badger Meter personnel.
Data Exchange is recommended for utilities with more than a handful of accounts and assets (meters and endpoints).
Manual provisioning works well for small utilities that do not maintain an extensive Customer Information System (CIS) or billing system.
