Leak Alert Flow Totals

Q: When inspecting meters with leak alerts, why does the Meter Location Marker display a different flow total than the Leak Detected Alert on the meter card?

Leak Flow Counts

A: The flow total, which in the example above is 7.48 gallons, displayed in the Meter Card Alert Bar is rounded to the nearest integer, whereas the total in the Meter Location Marker is rounded to the nearest half fraction.

To see the exact flow total:

  1. Use the Actions drop-down menu on the Monitor page to Export Results to File.
  2. Save or Open the File with a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft® Excel®. Notice the right-most columns in the spreadsheet show the leak start date and time, the leak rate in gallons per hour and backflow in gallons during the last 30 days.Leak and Backflow in CSV

Q: How does BEACON calculate the Leak Rate in the yellow banner of the Cards and the export file?

A: BEACON takes the minimum flow in a 24-hour period as the leak rate. If at 4 a.m. BEACON sees 1 gallon usage, 5 a.m. 6 gallons usage, 6 a.m. 10 gallons, 7 a.m. 4 gallons, 8 a.m. 1 gallon, 9 a.m. 1 gallon … etc. then BEACON reports a leak rate of 1 gallon per hour.
