Session Timeout
For all users, a session timeout protection is in place. User sessions automatically expire after 10 hours of inactivity or 72 hours after login, whichever occurs first. This time out will allow undisturbed workday while also ensuring proper account and data protection.
Passwords
BEACON user account passwords must be a minimum of 12 characters, containing at least one each of the following: number, special character, upper case character and lower case character. Passwords cannot be a password the user has used in any of their three (3) most recent passwords. See Reset and Change Passwords for more information.
Multi-Factor Authentication (optional feature)
BEACON users can add an extra layer of protection to their account by enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on a user-by-user basis. BEACON users can verify their identity via receipt of a text message or by using an authenticator application. Utility Admins can track which of your BEACON users have enabled MFA by filtering your Staff page by Native MFA Status (Users > Staff), helping ensure your users are meeting your internal security requirements and business rules.
Enabling MFA on a BEACON user account
- BEACON user logs into their BEACON account.
- Select their User Profile icon from the top nav bar.
- Select the Go to User Settings link.
- The User Settings window will open. Select the Add button to enable MFA via Authenticator App or SMS Text Message.
- Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the set up process.
- Click Return to User Settings in the configuration success message. MFA set up is complete.
- To exit User Settings and return to BEACON, click the app selector then click BEACON. Alternatively, you can close the User Settings tab in your browser window.
Viewing MFA status
NOTE: Accessible to Admin users and those with the appropriate permissions enabled
To view your MFA status for your BEACON Users:
- Navigate to the Staff page in BEACON.
- Use the Native MFA Status filter to filter the Utility Staff list to view MFA Enabled or MFA Disabled.

- Navigate to the Staff page in BEACON.
- Locate the user account and click the … to the right side of their user account record in the staff list.
- Click Disable MFA.
