Endpoint Firmware Updates

Over-the-Air Endpoint Firmware Updates

A significant benefit of two-way communication enabled by cellular endpoints is the ability to implement firmware updates over the air to maintain performance over the life of the system. From time to time, Badger Meter will leverage this capability to provide firmware updates that incorporate feature and general maintenance enhancements for cellular endpoints in your portfolio. In endpoint management plans, a projection of up to two firmware updates per year on average is made.

When larger or global firmware updates are made over the air, new firmware is introduced in phased rollouts, often implemented over the course of several months. Endpoint performance is monitored by our engineering team as the updates are implemented and, should any issues arise, you would be notified. Following such an update, the firmware version will be incremented and visible on the Monitor page in BEACON under the Firmware Version filter and on the Assets page, from which data can be exported to a CSV file.

Firmware Versions for Cellular Endpoints

Firmware versions are incremented in production endpoints so endpoints shipped later may have a different firmware version than endpoints shipped earlier. It is not uncommon for a group of endpoints of a particular type to have a different firmware version than another group of endpoints of the same type. Endpoint performance is monitored by our engineering team and, if it is identified that a larger or global over-the-air firmware update will be beneficial to endpoint performance, the engineering team will implement that update.
